Lairam Organic Farmer Producer Company Limited is basically just all of us neighbors coming together to help each other out. We grew tired of middle-men taking everything for themselves, so we formed this group. We focus on organic methods because the soil here in Mizoram is still good, and we want to keep it that way for our kids. It isn't always smooth sailing. Sometimes we argue about which crops will sell better or how to fix a broken tractor that nobody has parts for. We do not have a polished business plan like they teach people in schools. We just go by what we see in the fields and what the old-timers in the village tell us. Working the land in Lawngtlai means dealing with a lot of heat and heavy rain, but there is a certain peace in it. We spend our days checking the growth and making sure no pests are ruining the hard work. Our office is small and usually smells like strong coffee and damp dirt. It is where we meet to count the harvest and plan the next few months. We aren't a giant corporation, just a bunch of families in the district trying to get our crops to the people who actually need them.
