We started Zikra Hardware And Building Materials in the Raje Shivaji Nagar area of Latur. Our shop is quite close to the scrap market, so there’s always a lot of activity and trucks moving around. We deal with the usual stuff you’d expect—cement bags, pipes, tools, and all sorts of hardware. It gets pretty hot here in Latur, so we usually have the big fans going all day. The floor is usually covered in a bit of dust from the sand and cement, but that’s just how a hardware store is. People come in from all over the neighborhood when they are fixing up their houses or building something new. We don't have a computer system for everything; we still write down a lot of stuff in the big ledger books. It’s simpler that way for us. Sometimes people just come in to ask for advice on which pipe fits where, and we help out if we can. We’ve been here for a bit now, and we know most of the contractors who work nearby. It’s a lot of heavy lifting and moving boxes around. The scrap market being close means there’s always people looking for parts or selling bits of metal. We just keep the shop open and wait for the next customer to walk through the door with a list of things they need for their project. It’s a busy life but it is what we do. We like being right here in the mix.
