Our office is over at Shri Satish Shriram Giri’s place in Murud. It’s in the Latur district. We handle things for Shivsai Ele. Engi Chit Fund Private Limited. It’s not a very big operation. We have a small room where we keep all the files and the desk where Satish sits. People from the village come by to join the chit fund or pay their monthly bits. We don't have any fancy signs or neon lights. It’s just a local house where we do our business. Sometimes we have a cup of tea with the people who visit. It makes the day go by faster. Latur can be quite dry, but we have a good roof over our heads. We aren't trying to compete with the big banks in the city. We just provide a way for people here in Murud to save together. It’s been going on like this for a while. We keep the accounts in big registers. Every entry is done by hand usually. It takes time, but we don't mind. We know everyone who comes through the door. It’s a lot of responsibility to look after other people's money, so we stay careful. Mostly, it’s just us doing the same thing day after day. It’s a steady way to live. We close up when the sun goes down and start again the next morning. It’s honest and it works for us. We like the routine.
