Alpha Plywood

Alpha Plywood is located right across from the MSEB office here in Ganj Golai. It is a busy part of town, and having the electricity office right there means people are always passing by. Our shop is full of the smell of cut wood and sawdust. If you come inside, you will see sheets of plywood leaning against the walls in different sizes and thicknesses. It is heavy work, moving these sheets around all day. We usually have dust on our clothes by the time we go home in the evening. The floor is concrete and usually has a thin layer of wood shavings on it no matter how much we sweep. We have a small desk where we handle the cash and write out the bills by hand. There is an old fan that creaks a bit but it keeps the air moving when the sun gets hot. We don’t really do anything fancy here. We just sell plywood to people who are building things or fixing up their homes. Sometimes we chat with the regular carpenters who come in every week. They have their own stories and it makes the day go by faster. Ganj Golai is a good place to be because everything is close by. We just open up in the morning, wait for the first customer, and take it one sheet of wood at a time until it's time to close. The stack of wood near the entrance is always the highest.
