We are based in Larkipora, within the Dooru Tehsil area of Anantnag. Our shop is positioned near the Majid, which is a very central spot for everyone living nearby. You can hear the call to prayer throughout the day, which gives the whole street a specific rhythm. The building is simple, made with local materials, and it stays quite cold in the winter months, so we usually have a small heater going or wear heavy pherans to keep warm while we work. There is always some mud on the floor from people walking in from the street, especially when it snows or rains. We deal with various goods and keep records in big ledger books that sit on the main desk. It is a small operation, mostly just us and a few helpers when things get busy. The shelves are packed with whatever we need for the day's business. We know most of the people who walk past the door by name. It is the kind of place where you sit down and have a glass of tea while talking about the weather or the local news. We do not bother with fancy decorations or anything like that. The walls are mostly bare except for some hooks for coats and a clock that is about five minutes fast. Everything here is done in a very straightforward way, just managing the shop and making sure things are in order before we close up for the evening.
