You can find Gates India Pvt. Ltd. out on the Ambala-Chandigarh Highway in the Lalru area. It’s a bit of a drive from the city, so we spend a lot of time on the road ourselves. The location is convenient for the big trucks coming through from both directions. The building is quite large and sits back a bit from the main road. We have a big gravel yard where people park their bikes and cars. In the mornings, you can see the fog rolling in over the fields nearby before the traffic picks up. Inside, the space is divided into different sections. It’s a lot of walking back and forth between the storage area and the main floor. We have a clock on the wall that everyone watches when it gets close to five. The work is steady, and there’s always something that needs to be moved or sorted. We get a lot of dust from the highway, so we are constantly trying to keep the surfaces clean, though it’s a losing battle. There’s a small canteen where we eat our lunch together. Most of us bring tiffins from home. It’s a quiet place to work compared to the shops right in the middle of town. We don’t have much in the way of decoration on the walls. It’s just a functional place where we spend our hours and then head home back down the highway. It’s a long day, but we're used to it.
