About Kala Raksha Preservation Of Traditional Arts – Art & Craft in Kutch
Our place is located in Parkar Vas, within the village of Sumrasar Sheikh near Bhuj. It’s a quiet corner of the world, away from the noise and rush of the bigger towns. Kala Raksha Preservation Of Traditional Arts is basically just us and the local craftspeople working together. Most of the people here have been doing this kind of work for their whole lives. We don’t have a big factory or a fancy office building. We work out of small rooms and open spaces where the light is good. The air in Bhuj is often dusty and the sun can be quite strong, but we’re used to it. We sit together and work on our pieces, talking about the day and the things going on in the village. It’s a very slow and steady way of living. We don’t have any fancy technology or automated machines. Everything is done by hand, the way it was taught to us. Sumrasar Sheikh is a place where traditions still matter a lot. We keep our doors open for anyone who wants to come and see what we’re doing. It’s not about making a lot of noise or having a big brand. It’s just about keeping these skills alive in our community. We take pride in the small details and the time it takes to get things right.
