Shahi Rice Mill

If you drive down NH-29 toward Gagha Gorkhpur, you’ll find us at Shahi Park. Shahi Rice Mill is just a plain building with a big yard for the trucks to turn around in. We get a lot of dust from the highway, so we are always sweeping. The mill stays busy during the harvest months especially. We have some old machines that need a lot of oiling, but they do the job just fine. My nephew helps me with the books, though he mostly just sits in the corner on his phone when it’s slow. We don't have a sign that lights up or anything like that. People just know where we are. Usually, there are a few tractors parked outside waiting for their turn. The workers have been with us for a long time and they know exactly how the dryers should sound. If something sounds off, we stop everything to check the gears. It gets really humid inside the shed, but we have big fans that help a bit. Most of our days are spent weighing bags and making sure the quality is what it should be. We don't do much advertising because word of mouth in the village is enough. Sometimes travelers pull over to ask for directions since we are right on the main road. We don't mind. It’s a steady life here by the highway.
