Balaji Power Cables

Our place, Balaji Power Cables, is on the ground floor at Plot No 34/A in the Electronic Complex. It is a very specific kind of environment here. Since it’s an electronic complex, everyone is dealing with something technical or mechanical. Our shop is filled with heavy spools of wire and different types of power cables. Copper is everywhere. The floor is just plain cement and it’s seen a lot of wear over the years. We spend hours measuring lengths and checking the insulation on the wires. It is repetitive work but it requires a lot of attention. The machines we use are loud and they make the floor vibrate a little bit. We don't wear suits or ties here. Usually, it’s just old clothes that can handle a bit of grease and dust. The ground floor location is good because we don't have to carry the heavy spools up any stairs. People are always coming and going in the complex, so there is a lot of movement outside our door. Sometimes the delivery guys get lost looking for the plot number, so we have to go out and wave them down. We have a small kettle in the corner for making tea when we get a chance. It’s not a fancy life, but it’s what we do. The work is honest and we just take it one day at a time. Every cable has to be checked before it leaves the building.
