Out here in Village Sanwala, things move a bit differently than in the big cities. Hindustan Rice Exports Private Limited is based right in the heart of the Kurukshetra district. Since we are in Thanesar, we are surrounded by fields, which makes sense for what we do. We spend a lot of time dealing with the actual grain. It’s dusty work and can be very tiring when the harvest is coming in. We aren't sitting in air-conditioned offices all day. Most of the time, we’re out where the rice is being processed or loaded into bags. Exporting is a complicated process with all the rules and shipping requirements, so we spend our evenings going over documents by lamplight. It’s a family-run feel even if we are a private limited company. We know the farmers around Sanwala and we see them every day. We’ve had years where the rain didn't come and years where there was too much, and that affects everything we do. We don't pretend to be anything we aren't. We are just rice people. Our facility is practical and built for work, not for show. If you come down to the village, you’ll see the tractors and the trucks lined up. That’s our life. It’s about the soil and the grain and getting it to people who need it. It’s been this way for years and we just keep going.
