At Baba Markanda Glass Co., we spend our days at Plot No-24 in the New Market area. We are right by Dabra Chowk, near the road that leads to the Devi Mandir. The shop is always full of glass sheets of different sizes and thicknesses. You have to be very careful where you step because there might be small shards on the ground. We wear thick gloves because the edges are sharp. It is a bit of a crowded area, so parking a truck to unload glass is always a headache. We have a big cutting table in the middle of the room where we spend most of our time. The sound of glass being scored and snapped is something we hear all day long. It’s a family-type atmosphere here, with everyone pitching in. We don't have a fancy website or a glossy catalog. If someone needs a window pane replaced or a mirror cut, they just come to the shop and talk to us. The walls are covered with old calendars and notes written in marker. Sometimes it gets a bit chaotic when three different people want different things at the same time. We just take it one customer at a time. The location near the temple road means we see a lot of people passing by. It’s a busy, dusty, and somewhat dangerous job, but it is what we do.
