Sri Lakshmi Narsimha Swami Rice Mill

Down here on Kotha Cheruvi Road, things stay pretty loud during the day. This is where Sri Lakshmi Narsimha Swami Rice Mill is located, right in the Industrial Area of New Gunj. Our address is Dr.No.4-19/23, and if you come by during harvest time, you’ll see trucks lined up everywhere. It’s a dusty job, working with rice all day long. The machines have their own sound that you get used to after a while. We spend a lot of time checking the grains and making sure the hulling is going right. It isn’t a glamorous place to work. There’s always some maintenance to do on one of the motors or a belt that needs tightening. Most of the folks working here have been with us for years. We know the farmers from the surrounding villages quite well because they bring their crop here season after season. New Gunj is a busy part of town, especially with all the other industrial units nearby. We usually start quite early when the air is still a bit cool. By the afternoon, the heat inside the mill can get quite heavy. We just keep our heads down and get the work finished. It’s a practical business, really. We don’t have much in the way of a front office, just a small space to keep the records and handle the paperwork. That’s just how it is for a rice mill.
