Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Modern Rice Mill is over here on the Adoni Bypass Road in Yemmiganur. We have been working out of Gandhi Nagar for a long time now. The mill stays busy most days with paddy arriving from the local fields. It gets pretty dusty inside when the machines are running full tilt, but that is just how it goes in this line of work. We mostly deal with the processing side of things, making sure the rice is cleaned and sorted properly before it goes out. People in the area know our spot at 6-53 because we’ve been here through many harvests. Sometimes the electricity acts up, which slows things down, but we just wait it out and get back to it. It is a loud place with all the hulls being stripped and the grains moving through the pipes. We don't have a fancy office or anything like that. Just a simple desk and the ledger books where we keep track of what comes in and out. The neighbors around Gandhi Nagar are used to the hum of the motors by now. We start early in the morning when the air is still cool, and usually, we don't finish until the sun is well down. It’s hard work, and our hands are always rough, but it keeps the town fed. We just focus on the day-to-day tasks and try to keep the machinery in decent shape so nothing breaks during the peak season.
