We've been operating around Old Town for a while now. Joseph started this because he saw a real need for better transport when someone is seriously ill. It’s not an easy job, staying up at odd hours waiting for the phone to ring, but it's what we do. Our van is set up with ICU gear because sometimes just a regular car isn't enough for the trip. The roads here can be a bit bumpy, so we try to take it steady while still being quick. Most people know where we are parked. It's just a small team of us. We spend a lot of time checking the oxygen tanks and making sure the stretchers are clean and working right. Sometimes things get hectic, especially during the rainy season when traffic gets backed up near the main square. We just keep the engine running and stay ready. It’s not glamorous work, mostly just driving and helping people get into the hospital without making their condition worse. We’ve seen a lot on these streets. People stop by the office in Old Town just to ask questions or get a number to keep on their fridge. We don't have a big fancy office, just a place to sit and wait for the next call. It’s about being there when the neighbors need a hand getting to the city doctors. We try to keep things simple and just focus on the driving and the patient in the back. Our uniforms are a bit faded, but the ambulance is always fueled up.
