SAJAD GARMENTS AND TEXTILE MANUFACTURING PRIVATE LIMITED

Our place is in Maidanpora Bramri, which is part of Kupwara. It’s tucked away in the Kupwara-193222 area of Jammu and Kashmir. We run Sajad Garments and Textile Manufacturing Private Limited from here. The building belongs to Shabir Ahmad Lone. It’s a simple setup with sewing machines and big tables for cutting the cloth. In Kupwara, the weather dictates a lot of what we do. When it’s cold, we work faster to stay warm. We don't have a fancy showroom. It's mostly just rolls of fabric leaning against the walls and the sound of needles clicking all day. Some of the guys have been working with us for years. We know each other's families and what’s happening in the village. It’s not a corporate environment where everyone wears a suit. We wear our everyday clothes and get stains on our hands from the dyes. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to wait or use the old manual machines. It’s frustrating but we are used to it by now. The Maidanpora area is pretty quiet, so you can hear the machines from down the street. We focus on getting the garments finished so they can be sent out to the markets. It’s just honest work in a small town. We don’t try to be something we aren't. We are just local people making clothes in a small corner of Kupwara.
