We are Abdaal Handloom Pashmina and we work out of Arampora in the Nawakadel area. You can find us at Bashir Ahmad Mir’s place. In this part of town, handloom work is something we’ve known our whole lives. We focus on pashmina, which takes a lot of time and a very steady hand. It’s not something you can rush. We have several looms set up and the sound of the shuttles moving is what you hear all day long. It’s a producer company, meaning we all work together to make sure the weavers get a fair deal for their skills. The lanes in Nawakadel are narrow, so getting supplies in can be a bit of a challenge sometimes. We spend a lot of time inspecting the wool and making sure the patterns are coming out the way they should. It’s a lot of sitting and focusing on small details. We don’t spend money on big advertisements because the quality of the pashmina speaks for itself. People know where to find us if they want something real. We are just a group of people keeping a tradition going in our own neighborhood. We have tea together every afternoon and talk about how the work is going. It isn't a factory with big machines. It’s just us and our hands. We take pride in the fact that we're still doing things the old way in Arampora. It keeps us connected to home.
