Lakshmipuram in Kuppam is where you will find us. Evershine Granites Pvt. Ltd. is the name on the gate, but most folks just know us as the place down the road with all the gray and black slabs. Kuppam has always been a big area for this kind of work, so we are surrounded by other yards and the sound of machinery. It is a long day usually, starting before the sun gets too high. We have some big machines for the polishing, and they need a lot of looking after to keep them running right. Sometimes they break down at the worst time, and we have to spend half the day fixing a belt or a motor. The yard is big enough for the trucks to turn around, which is lucky because some of them are huge. We have been in Lakshmipuram for quite a while, and we’ve seen the town change a bit, but the granite business stays pretty much the same. You cut the stone, you polish it, and you move it out. There is a lot of dust, no matter how much water you use on the saws. We just wear our old clothes and get on with it. It’s not a clean job, but it is steady. We don't do much talking, mostly just signaling each other over the noise of the cutters.
