Anusuya Silks

If you find yourself on Sowrashtra New Street, you will see us at number 14. We have been working with silks here for a good while. The street itself is usually quite lively with people moving back and forth. Inside Anusuya Silks, things are often a bit cramped because of all the rolls of fabric we have tucked away. Silk is a tricky material to work with, it’s slippery and requires a lot of attention. We spend our time checking the weave and making sure the colors are what they are supposed to be. It’s mostly locals who come in looking for something specific for a wedding or a family event. We aren't a big department store, just a regular shop on a busy street. Sometimes the dust from the road gets in, and we have to keep everything covered up. The building is older, so it has its quirks, like the squeaky door that we never seem to get around to fixing properly. We know many of the other shop owners on the street too. It’s that kind of place where everyone says hello. The work can be repetitive, folding and unfolding cloth all day, but it’s what we know how to do. We don’t have a website or anything like that, just the physical shop where we sit and wait for the next person to walk through the door. It keeps us busy enough most days of the week and that is fine by us.
