About Amman Masala – Food & Beverages in Kumbakonam
We are based at number 23 in Aaduthurai. Being near Suryanar Kovil means we get a lot of people passing through, especially during festival times or special days at the temple. The shop is small and traditional. We focus on masalas because that’s what we know best. It’s a hot place to work, especially when the grinders are running all day long. We don’t have air conditioning or anything like that, just some fans that move the spicy air around. Most of our customers are from around the village or people visiting the temple who want to take something home. We don’t have a fancy logo or a marketing team. We just write the names of the spices on the bins. It’s a bit old-fashioned, but people seem to like it that way. We spend a lot of time talking to customers about what they’re cooking. Sometimes the supplies don't arrive on time because of the rain, and we just have to tell people to come back tomorrow. It’s a slow-paced life here in Aaduthurai. We just try to keep the jars full and the floor swept. It’s not a complicated business. We just do our part in the community and keep the shop running as best as we can. Every day is pretty much the same, but that is fine with us. We just like having a steady routine to follow throughout the week and seeing familiar faces.
