Our place is at Vill. 15 Mile, which is a small spot near Baragran in the Manali area. Most of the people working here grew up right in these mountains. It is just the way of life we know. We started this whole thing because folks visiting the valley kept asking for help finding the trails or setting up camp. We have a small office here, nothing fancy at all. It gets really cold during the winter months, so things tend to slow down quite a bit, but we stay busy with maintenance. It is not some big corporate operation. We just have the right gear and we know where the hidden paths go. Sometimes the weather stays clear for weeks, and other times we just have to sit and wait for the snow to stop. If you happen to come by, you will likely see our gear sitting out in the sun to dry. We spend a lot of time checking ropes and making sure the tents are still good. It involves a lot of manual work and heavy lifting. People think it is just walking around, but there is a lot of carrying involved. We know the shortcuts and the spots where the mountain water is actually good to drink. Usually, we are out in the field more than we are at the desk. Being at 15 Mile means we are away from the loud noise of the main town. It suits us just fine.
