Hardevz Harit Himalaya Foundation

Our foundation is based up in Bhadraina, which is a small area near Palampur in the Kangra district. We are at house number 2252. It’s a beautiful part of the hills, surrounded by greenery and fresh air. We care a lot about the mountains because this is where we grew up. You can see the changes in the environment over the years, and it worries us. We spend most of our time outside rather than sitting at a desk. We aren't experts with fancy degrees, just local people who know these forests and rivers. We try to keep the area clean and help the farmers when they have trouble with their crops or the soil. The work is hard because the slopes are steep, but we are used to it. Palampur is a busy town, but Bhadraina stays relatively quiet, which we prefer. We don’t have much funding, so we depend on people giving their time to help us out. Sometimes we get together to talk about the water supply or how to manage waste better in the village. It’s all very basic and practical. We use old tools and whatever materials we can find. We just want to make sure the hills stay green for the next generation. It’s a slow process, so we don’t rush things. We just take it day by day, planting trees and looking after the land as best as we can.
