Up here in Kullu, at the Larji project site, things are a bit different than the city offices we sometimes visit. The air is thinner and the mountains are always right there looking down at us while we work. Our office at PHEP-III isn't much more than a functional space to keep the rain and snow off our heads and our papers dry. We deal with a lot of rock and water around here. It takes a certain kind of person to work in this terrain without getting worn out. We don't have any polished floors or fancy art on the walls. Mostly it's just site plans pinned up and shelves full of safety gear and muddy boots. The commute can be a bit rough depending on the landslides or the winter weather, but we make it work because we have to. Most of us live nearby or in the labor camps when things get really busy during the peak season. We aren't here to make a big show of things or look important. We are just here to build what needs building. You'll often find us arguing over a set of drawings or checking on the machinery down by the river. It’s cold a lot of the time, so the kettle is always on for whoever needs it. It's a hard life sometimes but it feels good to see the progress we make on the mountainside. We just keep moving.
