United Masala Mills

Our mill is located on Court Road in Vailoo Gohan, which is part of Kokernag in Anantnag. Up here, the weather can be quite cold, especially in the winters. We spend our days grinding different kinds of masala at United Masala Mills. The machines make a lot of noise, but it’s a sound we’ve gotten used to over the years. It’s a family-run place, and we’ve been here for a long time. People from the village come by with their own spices sometimes, or they just buy what we have ready. The smell of the spices stays in your clothes even after you leave. We don't have a big website or a fancy office. Most of our business is done right here at the front door. We keep the registers in a small wooden box and write everything down by hand. It works for us. Kokernag is a beautiful place, and being near the court means there is always someone passing by. We try to keep the mill running smooth, even when the power goes out, which happens more than we’d like. It’s just us doing what our fathers did before us. We don't need to change much because the way we do things works just fine for the people around here. We just hope the machines keep running through the winter season. It's a simple, honest way to live.
