Hotel Imperial Palace

We are situated in Ayarkunnam, which is a small place near Kottayam in Kerala. It’s a very green area, and when it rains, it really pours down here. The hotel is something we’ve put a lot of time into. It’s not like those big chain hotels you see in the cities. We have a more local feel. The address is just Ayarkunnam PO, and everyone around here knows where we are. We spend our days making sure the rooms are ready for guests and that the grounds don't get too overgrown with the jungle trying to move in. It’s a lot of maintenance work. We aren't professional hoteliers with degrees; we just learned by doing it. Some days it’s very quiet and we just sit and watch the rain, and other days we have families coming in for functions and it gets quite loud and messy. We do our own cooking and cleaning for the most part. It’s a quiet life compared to the big cities. People come here when they want to get away from the noise for a bit. We don't have any big slogans or missions. We just want to make sure the beds are comfortable and the food is hot and fresh. It’s a basic way to run a hotel, and it suits the pace of life here in Kottayam. We are just local people running a local business.
