Krishna Gingers

Our place, Krishna Gingers, is tucked away in Village Gurpora. We are quite close to the Government School, so we hear the kids playing during their breaks. It’s a quiet area mostly, near the Mandagatta post office. We spend most of our time dealing with the crops and making sure the ginger is handled right. It’s dirty work sometimes, getting your hands in the earth, but we like being outdoors. This isn't a big corporate farm or anything. It is just a few of us from the village working together. We don't have fancy machinery, just the basic tools that have worked for years. The weather is our biggest boss; if it rains too much or not enough, our day changes. We sell to the local markets and sometimes people come right to the gate to see what we have. We’ve lived in Gurpora all our lives, so everyone knows us and we know them. It’s a community thing. We don't bother with advertising because the quality of the ginger speaks for itself when people see it. Some days are long, especially during harvest, but that is the life we chose. We keep our records in a simple notebook and don't use computers much. If you are ever near the school in Mandagatta, you will probably see us working in the fields or loading up a cart. It’s just how we live.
