Yokesh Supermarket

Yokesh Supermarket is sitting at 288 in the Sipcot Housing Colony. Being in Mookandapalli, we get a lot of people who work in the nearby factories and offices. Most of our customers live right here in the colony, so we see the same faces every single day. We try to keep a bit of everything on the shelves, from soap to snacks to bags of rice. The aisles are a bit narrow, so when it gets busy in the evening, it can be a bit of a squeeze for everyone. We don't have those fancy scanners that work perfectly every time, so sometimes we have to type things in manually which slows down the line. It’s just the way it is. The lights hum a little too loud in the back, and we’re always fighting to keep the cold drinks fridge stocked because people buy them so fast in the heat. We don’t have a big marketing plan or anything. We just put a chalkboard out front with whatever we have extra of that day. My kids sometimes help out after school, especially with putting things on the shelves or sweeping up. It’s a neighborhood shop where we know whose kid likes which chocolate and who needs their bill kept on a tab until the end of the month. It’s busy and sometimes a bit chaotic, but it’s our way of making a living here in Mookandapalli.
