Athri Store

We’re over at 32 Salem Main Road in Thanipadi. Our shop is right on the main road, so we see everyone passing through town. It is a general provision store where we try to keep a bit of everything on the shelves. You can find groceries, soap, matches, and all the little things you might need during the week. The space is a bit small and we have things stacked up pretty high to make use of every inch. It can get a bit crowded in the evenings when people are coming home from work and stop in for bread or milk. We’ve been here for a long time, so we know most of our customers by sight. We usually spend a few minutes chatting about the local news or how the rains are doing while we count out the change. We don't have any fancy barcode scanners or computers. We just know what everything costs and we use a small calculator. My wife and I run the place ourselves, and we take turns minding the counter. The ceiling fan hums all day long to keep us cool. It’s not a big corporate supermarket, just a local shop where you can get what you need without any fuss. We open up the shutters early every morning and stay until the sun goes down.
