Sree Sreenivasa Fruit Processing Industry

Down in Ramayammarao Pet, we have the Sree Sreenivasa Fruit Processing Industry set up. It’s a place that smells like whatever is in season, whether it’s mangoes or something else. The floors are made of concrete and they can get a little slippery if we aren't careful with the washing. We have some heavy equipment that makes a lot of noise when it’s running, so we usually have to shout a bit to be heard. It is a very hands-on kind of job. We spend hours sorting through the produce that comes in from the local areas. Not every fruit is perfect, so there is a lot of picking and choosing involved. We don’t have much in the way of an office; it’s mostly just the processing floor and a small corner with a desk and a chair for the paperwork. The sun gets pretty hot on the roof during the middle of the day, so we try to get the heaviest work done early. We have a few regular people who have been with us for years, and we all know the routine by heart. It’s not a glamorous business, and your clothes usually end up a bit stained by the end of the shift. We just focus on getting the crates filled and sent out to where they need to go. It's honest work and it keeps us all quite busy.
