Manohar Spices

Manohar Spices is located at 346/76-8 on Beach Road in Thimmapuram. If you step outside our front door, you can smell the salt from the ocean mixed with the strong scent of the spices we process inside. It’s an interesting combination, though it can be a bit overwhelming on hot days. We spend our time cleaning, grinding, and bagging various spices. The machinery we use is quite old and makes a lot of noise, so it’s hard to have a conversation while it’s running. Beach Road is usually quiet except for the weekends when people come down to the water. Our building is a simple one-story structure that we’ve patched up several times over the years. I usually have a layer of spice dust on my clothes by the time I head home in the evening. We don't have a big marketing plan or anything like that; we just sell to the local vendors and people who stop by the shop. Thimmapuram is a small enough place that everyone knows Manohar is the guy to see for spices. My daughter helps with the bookkeeping, though she’s always telling me I should organize the shelves better. It’s a family-run operation and we just take things one day at a time, making sure the bags are filled and the floor is swept. We have a small fan in the corner that doesn't do much, but we keep it going anyway.
