Over at the T A K Building in Kuttikatoor, you’ll find our shop. Ponkudam Gold & Diamonds Llp is what we call it, and we have been in this part of Kozhikode for a while. The building is easy enough to find if you know the area. We spend most of our time looking at gold ornaments and diamonds. It’s not a fast-paced environment, which is how we like it. We usually start the morning with some coffee and then get the displays set up. It is important to keep things organized, even if it feels like we are just moving boxes around half the time. Kuttikatoor is a good place to be, and the people around here are mostly folks we’ve known for years. We aren't trying to be the biggest store in Kerala, we just want to keep the shop running smoothly. My brother helps out with the diamond side of things while I handle the gold. The weather can get pretty humid, so we are glad to be inside most of the day. There is a lot of counting and checking involved in this job. Sometimes a customer comes in wanting to fix a broken chain or just looking for a gift. We don't have any scripted speeches or anything. We just talk like normal people and show them what is available in the cases. It’s a simple life running a jewelry business in Kozhikode. We're happy with how things are going here. It’s a nice way to be part of the local business scene without all the stress of a bigger city.
