Kozhikode Medical College Hospital

This hospital is a huge place here in Kozhikode. It is always crowded. No matter what time of day or night it is, people are there. Patients come from all over Kerala to get treated here. The hallways are long. They always seem to have people waiting in them on plastic chairs or even on the floor. You can smell the cleaning chemicals and the medicine as soon as you walk in. There are lots of different wings. Even if you work here, it is easy to get turned around sometimes in the back corridors. The fans are always spinning. With so many people, it still stays warm and heavy. We have a lot of staff, but there is always more work than people to do it. You see doctors in white coats rushing from one ward to another and nurses checking charts. Outside, there are always ambulances arriving with their sirens going. People sit under the trees in the shade to eat their food. It is a very busy environment. It never really sleeps. Even at three in the morning, the lights are on and there is movement. The rain in Kerala can be very heavy. When it pours, the sound on the metal roofs is so loud you have to shout. We deal with all sorts of cases every day. It is a tough place to work, but it is an important part of the city. There is not much time for sitting around.
