Jayam Hospital

Down in Kagalungi, specifically in the Kolkode District, you’ll find Jayam Hospital. It’s a bit of a trek for some, but for the people living in this part of the district, we’re the main place they come when something is wrong. The building is simple and sits right where you’d expect a local hospital to be. We don't have a big fancy lobby or a cafeteria with expensive coffee. Instead, we have a few rows of benches and a staff that has been working together for years. Most of us grew up around here or in nearby villages, so we understand the local concerns and how hard people work. The hospital runs 24 hours because health problems don't really stick to a schedule. Sometimes it’s very quiet at night, and other times it’s a bit of a mess with everyone arriving at once. We handle a bit of everything, from kids with fevers to older folks needing help with their breathing. We don't spend money on big advertisements or billboards. People know we are here because they’ve been coming here for a generation. The paperwork can be a headache sometimes, and the electricity cuts out occasionally, but we just keep the generator running and carry on. It’s not a perfect place, but it’s ours, and we do the work that needs doing every day for our neighbors in the Kagalungi area. We’re just regular people trying to keep the community healthy as best as we can. There is always plenty of cleaning and stocking to do.
