German Motors

Over at 118 A, Chungam Jun. in West Hill, things stay pretty loud. German Motors has been sitting here for a while, right where the traffic picks up at the intersection. We spend most of the day under hoods or looking at engines that aren't doing what they should. It’s greasy work and our hands are rarely clean at the end of a shift. The floor usually has a bit of oil on it despite our best efforts to sweep up. West Hill is a good spot for us, close enough for folks to drop their cars off on the way to wherever they're going. We don’t have a fancy waiting room with coffee and magazines. It’s just a garage with tools, jack stands, and parts scattered around the benches. Sometimes parts take a while to arrive, which is a real headache for everyone, but we manage. We’ve got a couple of lifts that are almost always occupied by some project or another. It gets hot in the afternoons, but the breeze from the junction helps a little bit. Dealing with cars means things go wrong unexpectedly, so we just take it one day at a time. People around Chungam Jun. know where we are. We don't do much talking, mostly just listening to how an engine sounds. It’s a straightforward way to make a living. We keep the doors open from early morning until late. There is always something to fix or adjust before we can head home.
