Our place is in the Star Complex at Kottapparamba in Kozhikode. We are right opposite the Kottapparamba Hospital, which is a very busy landmark around here. Since we are so close to the hospital, we see a lot of people coming and going all day long. The office is a bit small, but it’s right in the middle of everything. We deal with various health-related things and helping people get what they need. There is always a smell of medicine and the sound of ambulances from across the street. We have a couple of benches for people to sit on while they wait. The staff is just a few of us who have lived in Kozhikode our whole lives. We talk to patients and their families, mostly just listening to what they need and pointing them in the right direction. It’s a lot of walking back and forth to the hospital sometimes. The rain here can be really heavy, so we often have umbrellas drying by the door. It’s not a fancy clinic or a big corporate office. It’s just a small shop where we try to be helpful. We keep our files in old metal cabinets and use a single computer for most things. It’s a busy life, but it’s what we know. Being across from the hospital means there is never a dull moment. We just do our bit every single day.
