Cafe Wox

Down in Poonoor, Calicut, we have our little cafe. It is situated on a main stretch of road, so we get people who are driving through the area and also the local residents. It is a very simple setup with just a few tables and a small counter. I am usually here from the early morning until the lights finally go out at night. We make coffee and some simple food, nothing too complicated for us to handle. The kitchen is small, so we do what we can with the space we have. It gets quite busy on the weekends when people are out and about in the neighborhood. I like the rain here, even if it makes the floor a bit messy from everyone’s wet shoes. I spend a lot of my time cleaning up the place after the lunch rush is over. We do not have a big corporate team behind us, it is just us working here. Sometimes the orders take a little bit longer if I am working by myself. People around here are generally patient though. I have lived in Calicut all my life, so I know a lot of the faces that come through the door. We talk about local news and things happening in the town. The cafe has been here for a bit, and the walls could probably use a new coat of paint. I keep the radio on low in the background to fill the silence while I work.
