Chekkadi Street is where we are, specifically at 1 E 3 Rd. This is where Kovilpatti Selection Seed Farm operates. If you walk down the street, you’ll find us easily enough. We deal with seeds, which means our whole year is dictated by the seasons. We spend a lot of time looking at tiny things and making sure they are stored right. If it gets too humid, it's a problem, and if it's too dry, that's another thing to worry about. The building is old but it works for what we need. There’s a distinct smell of earth and dried plants when you walk inside. We don't have any flashy signs or anything to attract attention. Most people who come here already know who we are and what we do. We sit on plastic chairs and talk to the farmers who stop by to see what we have. It’s a very practical business. We don't use big words or try to act like we are more important than we are. We just know about seeds and how they grow. Sometimes we have to spend hours sorting things by hand, which can be tiring for the eyes. But it’s the kind of work that has to be done carefully. We’ve been on this street for quite a while, and we’ve seen the neighborhood change, but our work stays pretty much the same. It’s just about the ground and what comes out of it.
