Thodukayil Classic Furniture

We have been at the Nh220 Kvms Jn in Ponkunnam for quite some time now. Most people know the shop because of all the wood stacked up out back. We make tables, chairs, and cupboards for folks in the area. It’s a noisy place with the saws going all day. There is always sawdust on the floor no matter how much we sweep it up. We use local wood mostly. The showroom isn't anything special. It's just a place to see what we have finished lately. Sometimes people bring in sketches of what they want and we see if we can manage it. We aren't a big factory or anything like that. Just a few of us working with our hands. It takes time to get things right so we don't rush the work. Sometimes a delivery takes longer if the weather is bad or if we run out of a certain type of timber. People around Ponkunnam usually just drop by when they need something for their house. We don't have a big website or a catalog. You just come in and look at the pieces. The wood smells good when it's fresh cut. We have some old tools that belonged to my father. They still work better than the new ones sometimes. It’s hard work and our hands are always rough. But that's just how making furniture goes here. We close up when it gets dark and start again early the next day.
