Out here in Madakkathanam, the workshop for S K Boilers is actually located at the Karottumaliackal house address. It is a bit of a different setup since it is more of a home-based operation in Vazhakkulam. We have the equipment set up in the back and that is where all the welding and assembly happens. It is a quiet area compared to the city, but when we are working on a boiler, you can hear the clanging from down the road. Most of the people around here know us and what we do. It’s a family-run kind of thing, so there is usually someone around if a neighbor drops by. The yard is often full of parts and half-finished projects that we are trying to get through. It is dusty work and we spend a lot of time in our overalls covered in soot and grease. We don't have a big office or a reception desk; if you want to talk to us, you usually have to walk around to the side where the tools are. The weather gets pretty humid, which makes the metal work even harder, but we just keep at it. It is honest work and we have been doing it this way for years. Sometimes we have to wait on parts to arrive at the post office before we can finish a job, but we stay busy regardless.
