Being at Kappala Junction means there is always something going on outside our windows. We moved into the Vattakunel Building a while back and it’s been our home since then. It’s a sturdy place, though the stairs can be a bit much when you’re carrying heavy crates of milk or soda. Most of our day is spent making sure the shelves aren't empty because people from Ayamkudi Junction and Kaduthuruthy come through here all the time. You get to know the faces, like the school bus driver who stops for snacks or the ladies who come in for their weekly vegetables. The lights in the back storage area flicker sometimes but we haven't got around to fixing that yet. It’s just how it is. We try to keep things organized but on busy Saturdays, it gets a bit messy with boxes in the aisles. Nobody seems to mind much. We aren't a big chain, just a local spot where you can grab what you need without a fuss. My cousin handles the morning shift and I take over in the evenings when it gets cooler. Sometimes we sit outside on the steps when things slow down just to watch the traffic go by. It’s not a complicated business, just buying and selling what folks need for their kitchens. We’ve been part of this neighborhood for years and it feels right to be right here at the junction. Every day is different but mostly it is just steady work.
