Down on Good Shepherd Street, you’ll find us at DC Kizhakemuri Edam. This is the home of Dc Books, and it’s a place that smells like paper and ink most of the time. We have stacks of books everywhere you look, which I guess is expected for a place like this. It’s not just a shop or an office; it’s where everything gets sorted out, from picking titles to getting them ready for readers. The building itself has a lot of history tied to it, and you can feel that when you walk through the doors. We don't have a lot of modern, glass-and-steel decorations. Instead, we have shelves and more shelves. Working here means being surrounded by stories every day, though mostly we are busy with the logistics of publishing and moving boxes around. The street outside can get pretty noisy, but inside it stays relatively calm, except for when a new shipment arrives. We’ve been part of this community for a long time now. People know where to find us if they need something to read or want to talk about a specific author. It’s a hands-on kind of job, and we usually have dusty hands by the end of the shift. We just keep doing what we’ve always done, which is making sure books get into the hands of people who want them. It’s a plain, honest way to spend our days here in Kottayam.
