If you go down M A College Road in Kothamangalam, you will find Paintmart India Pvt. Ltd. inside the Ikkirakudiyil Buiding. The shop is absolutely packed with cans of paint in every color you can think of. It smells quite strongly of enamel and thinners, but we don't notice it much anymore because we are here so often. We spend a lot of our day helping people pick out the right shades for their walls or gates. Sometimes we have to mix the paint by hand to get it exactly right, which can be a bit messy. The floor is covered in old paint splatters from over the years, giving it a bit of a colorful look that we never bother to clean off. We have brushes and rollers hanging from hooks on the wall, and the shelves go all the way up to the ceiling. It is a busy place, especially when the weather is good for painting and everyone wants to get their projects finished. We don't have a fancy showroom; it’s more of a working shop where people can come and get what they need. We talk to a lot of local painters who come in for their supplies every week. Sometimes we run out of a popular color and have to wait for the next delivery truck to arrive. It’s just a basic paint store where we try to stay on top of things and keep the shelves full for the neighborhood.
