Vijaya Pharma

Vijaya Pharma is based in Kota, Rajasthan. Kota is a city that never really seems to sleep because of all the people living and working here. Our location is right in the thick of it, so we deal with a lot of heat and noise on a daily basis. The shop itself is a rectangular space with a tiled floor and fluorescent lights that hum a little bit. We have rows and rows of medicine bottles and strips arranged in alphabetical order, though sometimes things get mixed up when we are in a hurry. Most of our morning is taken up by sorting through the new arrivals that come in crates from the distributors. We have a small wooden stool behind the counter where we sit when there are no customers, but mostly we are standing and moving around. The air conditioner works hard during the summer months, but it still gets quite warm inside when the door is constantly opening. We have a simple desk with a calculator and a pen on a string so it doesn't get lost. In the evenings, the street outside gets very crowded with students and locals, and the light from the shop spills out onto the pavement. It is a busy environment to work in, but we have a routine that keeps us going. We don't have any fancy decorations, just a clock on the wall and the usual supplies that a pharmacy needs to keep running.
