Tannu Kirana & General Store

Down here at Tejaji Ka Chauk, things move at their own pace. This is Prem Nagar II, and our place, Tannu Kirana & General Store, has been part of the landscape for a bit. We are situated right by DCM Road in Kota. If you know Rajasthan summers, you know how hot it gets inside a shop. I keep the big door open to catch whatever breeze there is, even if it brings in the Rajasthan dust. The shelves are packed with bags of grain and bottles of oil. It’s mostly locals who live in the colony behind us. They come in for the usual kitchen supplies. I spend my time weighing things out or counting the change. There’s no computer system or anything like that, just a notebook and a pen. My hands are usually a bit dusty from handling the sacks. The 324001 area is quite active, especially in the evenings when the sun goes down. People walk their cycles past the shop and stop to talk. It’s not a big corporate operation, just a corner store where I know which neighbor prefers which brand of tea. Sometimes the delivery trucks block the road for a while, and it gets noisy with all the honking. But that's just how it is on DCM Road. It’s a lot of work keeping everything in order and making sure the jars are full. This is just how we do things here every day.
