Suraj Stone Industries

Down in Ramganj Mandi, you'll find Suraj Stone Industries. We're in Vpo Amberpura, not far from the Balaji Mandir. This area near Kota is famous for its stone, and we’re just one of the local spots making a go of it. Our yard is usually filled with the sound of cutting and the smell of wet stone. It's a rural setting, so things are a bit quieter than in the big cities, except for the noise from our machines. We handle a lot of the local Kota stone, which is what everyone around here uses for their floors and courtyards. It’s heavy work. We spend our days out in the sun, sorting through slabs and making sure the edges are straight enough for the buyers. We aren't a big corporation with departments; we're just a small group of people who know how to handle stone. Sometimes a piece breaks, or the colors don't match exactly, and we have to deal with that as it happens. We like being near the temple; it feels like a good landmark for people trying to find us. We don't have a website or anything like that. People just drive up or call us on the mobile. It's a simple way of doing business, but it's worked for us so far. We just keep our heads down and do the work that needs doing. Every day is different, but the stone stays the same.
