Our shop is right near the Nayapura ghantaghar, which is a place everyone around here knows well. It is an old building and the walls have soaked up the smell of spices and herbs over many decades. My grandfather’s name is on the sign, and we try to keep things going the same way he did. When you walk in, you will see bags of lentils, different types of rice, and jars filled with things people use for traditional medicines. It is a bit cramped inside because we try to keep everything a household might need in stock. We spend a lot of time weighing out small portions of turmeric or cumin for regular customers who have been coming to us for twenty years. The bells from the clock tower ring out every hour, and that is how we keep track of our day. It gets very busy in the evenings when people are heading home and remember they need something for dinner. We don't bother with fancy packaging or anything like that. We just wrap things up in paper or put them in bags and hand them over. It is a simple life of measuring and talking to the neighbors. Some people come in just to chat for a minute while we get their order ready. That is just how business happens in this part of town. We are just part of the local scenery near the tower.
