Shokat Kirana Store

We’ve been here on Kota Zulmi Road in Suket for quite a long time now. It’s just a regular shop where we sell things people need every day like flour, rice, and those little packets of spices. The building is old and sometimes the shelves look a bit crowded because we try to fit everything in. Most mornings start early when the milk crates arrive. We have to move them inside before the sun gets too high. Suket is a place where everyone knows everyone else, so we spend a lot of time just talking to people who stop by. It isn't anything fancy. There’s a wooden counter where I sit and we use an old ledger to keep track of things. Sometimes the dust from the road comes inside when the wind blows, so we have to wipe things down often. We get our supplies from the main market every few days. If someone asks for something we don't have, we try to get it the next time we go. It’s a lot of work lifting heavy bags of grain, but that is just how it is. We keep the doors open until late evening when the streetlights come on. People come in after their work is done to pick up sugar or tea for the next morning. It's a simple life here and the shop is just part of the neighborhood routine for most folks around this part of town.
