Saree Sagar is at 73 Vijay Market in the Nayapura area. It’s a small corner of the market but we’ve made it our own. We have been selling sarees here for a long time. The shop is filled with rows and rows of sarees in every shade of the rainbow. We don't have a big display window, so you have to come inside to see what we have. It’s usually a bit of a squeeze when more than two families are in here at once. We have a few old fans that keep the air moving, but it still gets warm in the afternoons. We mostly sell to local families from Nayapura who have been living here for generations. They come to us when there’s a wedding or a festival coming up and they need something special or just something simple for a gift. We spend our days unfolding and folding fabric. It’s a lot of work to keep things looking okay, and my back usually hurts by the time we close up. We aren't trying to be the biggest shop in the city. We just want to have enough variety so people find something they like without having to go too far away. We get our stock from different weavers and suppliers we've known for years. Sometimes the colors aren't exactly what was promised on the phone, so we have to deal with that. It’s just part of running a shop. We open early and stay until the market closes.
