S K Bag Repairs is located in Kasim Gali, right near Kota Junction. Being so close to the railway station means we hear the trains all day and night. It’s a small shop, mostly filled with tools, sewing machines, and bits of leather and thread. There isn't much room for chairs, so we mostly stand or sit on low stools while we work. The walls are covered in old calendars and hooks for hanging bags that are waiting to be fixed. It’s a messy place, to be honest. There’s always scrap material on the floor. People bring in their luggage with broken wheels or torn handles, usually in a hurry because they have a train to catch. We do what we can with the needles and the heavy machines. My hands are usually a bit stained from the glue or the oil. It’s loud because of the station announcements and the traffic in the narrow lane of Kasim Gali. We don't have a fancy sign, just a hand-painted one that’s faded over the years. We’ve seen thousands of bags come through here. Some are expensive and some are held together by luck. We don't judge, we just try to get the stitch right. It’s hard work on the eyes and the fingers, but it’s what we do. When the sun sets, we pull the gate down and head home, ready to do it again tomorrow morning when the first trains arrive.
