This place at D/328 in the Ramganj Mandi Bhamashah Krishi Upaj Mandi is where we spend all our time. It is a bit of a trek to get here if you aren't from around this side of town. The area is constantly filled with the smell of earth and raw crops. We handle the trade of agricultural goods that the farmers bring in from their villages. It is hard work because you have to be alert about the quality and the weight of everything that passes through the gate. My father started this, and now we are the ones sitting on the wooden benches, checking the ledgers. The fans overhead hum all day long, trying to push the hot air around. We have a few regulars who have been coming to us for decades. They trust us because we have been in this same spot for so long. There is no air conditioning or fancy decorations here, just the bare walls and the stacks of bags. Sometimes the trucks get stuck in the mud when it rains, and everything slows down. Those days are tough, but we manage. We eat our lunch right here at the desk while talking to the transporters. It is a very direct way of living. We don't try to be anything we are not. We just do the trading and try to keep our head above water in this busy market environment.
