Raja General Store

Raja General Store is located on Main Market Road in the Chawani area of Kota. Since we are in Kota, we get a lot of students coming in along with the local families who live nearby. The shop is always a bit cluttered because we try to keep a huge variety of things. You’ll find notebooks and pens right next to packets of biscuits and bottles of shampoo. We spend a lot of time unpacking boxes that arrive on the rickshaws. The shelves are packed tight, and sometimes things spill over onto the floor if we aren't careful. It’s a lively place to work because there’s always someone coming in with a question or looking for something specific. We have a big counter at the front where we handle all the sales. The walls are covered in advertisements for different brands, but they’ve been there so long they’re starting to fade. We don't have a computer system, so we just remember the prices or look at the labels. The heat in Rajasthan can be tough, so we keep some cold drinks in a small fridge in the corner, which is popular during the summer months. The Chawani market is a loud place, and our shop is right in the thick of it. We stay open pretty late to make sure the students can get what they need after their classes. It’s a busy, simple life behind the counter.
